Holiday's at theSierra Oaks Community Center

Mark you calendar for a very busy time at the Sierra Oaks Community Center. 

Dec. 4th  is the General Meeting, starting at 10 am.  This is a good time to come and hear what the Center has planned for the month.  Friday Dec. 6 The Sierra High Choir will present their winter program at 11 am.  This is an awesome group filled with talent, you won't want to miss.   Sat. Dec. 7th the center will be busy, starting at 8 am with a boutique until one pm.  Bingo in the evening with meatloaf dinner starting at 5 pm.  Sat. Dec. 14th is the 3rd Annual Christmas Dinner starting at 5:00 pm.  Music and Door prizes. Tues. Dec . 17th is the monthly Jam Session starting at 5:30.  Come and enjoy great music and delicious food.  Wed. Dec. 18th is the Community Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. starting at 10:00 am with 50/50 and pot luck to follow.  Fri. Dec. 20th Breakfast with Santa  and a Bake Sale, starting at 7:00 am.  A Santa picture will be provided as a keepsake.  Waffles with eggs to order and bacon at $7.00 per plate.  Take advantage of our Bake sale to save yourself time and energy for the Holidays.  The center will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 & Jan. 1. Have a wonderful Holiday Season and a Very Happy New Year.  See you at the center.

Fall at the Center

Fall has arrived at the Center, and that means a busy time. Get ready to mark your calendar for all the special events coming up.  Sat. Nov. 9 is Community Bingo.  Pork Roast Dinner will be served at 5:00 - 6:30 by Mary Grace and Jake Marshall.  Mon. Nov. 11 the center will be closed in honor of the all the Veteran's.  Fri. Nov. 15 is the last day to order your Pumpkin Pie, only $7.00.  Sat. Nov. 16 is All You Can Eat Soup & Pie Dinner starting at 5:00 pm, only $7.00.There will be a drawing for a 32" Samsung LED TV & a one of a kind "All American Girl" doll. Mon. Nov. 18 the Red Hatter"s have invited the community to participate in an"Ugly Christmas Sweater Party" to be held on Dec. 18  Pot luck will be provided. The Senior Center is also decorating a Christmas Tree to be on display at the Historical Society event.  This tree, along with others will be auctioned off on Sat. Nov. 30.  Proceeds from the Senior Center's tree will be divided between the Center and the Historical Society.  If you have any ornaments that your would like to donate, please bring them to the center on or before the Nov. 18.  Tues. Nov. 19 is the monthly Jam Session with dinner starting at 5:30 - 8:00 pm.  Wed. Nov. 20 the Dichoric jewelry class  starting  at 9:30.  Come and be creative. Fri. Nov. 22 is the monthly Waffle Breakfast/Movie.  You get a great waffle, eggs to order & bacon all for $7.00.  Breakfast is served from 7 to 10 am.  The movie will start at 10 am.  Mon. Nov. 25, be sure to pick up your Pumpkin Pie between the hours of 8 and noon.  Wed. Nov. 27, is the monthly Birthday Bash.  The Center will be closed on Thurs Nov. 28 and Fri. Nov. 29 for Thanksgiving.  Don't forget all the regular daily activities, crafts, exercise, nickle bingo, quilting,crochet and computer class.

Celebrate August

What's Happening at the Center.
JEWELRY CLASSES  How would you like to learn how to make a necklace or earrings out of beads?  Diane will teach you how to put the jewelry together.  Bring your own supplies on Wednesday, Aug. 7th  at 9:00 am.  The regular dicroic class will be on Wednesday, August 14th at 9:30 am.  Come and make a pendant from glass and shinny metallic dicroic.  It will be one of a kind.
FAIR NEWS - Entry forms and money due by September 7th.  Entry items due at the center by September 12th.  Bus to the fair on Senior Day, October 7th, at a small cost of $5.00.
RED HAT Birthday Meeting, August 12 @10:00 am.
BREAKFAST/PEDDLERS FAIR coming August 17th. Come for breakfast and shop the peddlers fair IT'S TIME FOR POT LUCK.  Celebrate "August No Holidays Month" with your favorite casserole or salad on Thursday' August 22, at 11:30.  Ross Branch, Field Representative from Congressman McClintock's office, will be at the center on August 21 from 10 am to noon.   Any Questions ask him.
JAM SESSION for August is Tuesday, August 20th.
CHILI COOK- OFF on October 19th.  Raffle donations will be greatly appreciated.

Remember Old Glory

July is here in all it's hot glory.  Come on over to the center to keep cool and enjoy the company.
  Here is the months' activities that will stir up your interest. General Meeting Wednesday, July 3 @ 10:00.
Community Bingo, Sat. July 6th, Dinner at 5:00 pm Pastrami Sandwiches (fresh baked bread) beans watermelon slices, drinks and jello cake for dessert for only $7.00 . Let Kathy and Janie do the cooking for you this Sat. Red Hatters birthday meeting is on Monday July 8th at 10:00 am.  Jam Session on Tuesday July 16th. Come for dinner  and enjoy the music of the Red Barn Gang, a great group of musicians.
Mark your calendar for July 20th- Pie Contest. No entry fee. Bake your best and bring it to the center before 1:00 pm to be judge.  After judging, pie and ice cream will be available at $3.00 per service. To close out the month, birthday bash on July 31.  Remember our regular class activities  Breakfast/Yard Sale August 17th.  This would be a great time to Clean your house and sell them at the Center's yard sale. Space is only $10.00.  
Don't forget we offer Senior Salad's for the month.

June is Bustin' out All over

Here it is June already.  Wow where does the time go.  Lets get caught up on activities at the Senior Center.
Be sure and mark your calendar for the following activities.  This Wednesday  at the Monthly General Meeting is election  of officers. Please plan to attend.   Don't forget to keep your dues active.Friday, June 7th the Sierra Mt. Momma's will meet at the center at 8:30 to car pool to Coarsegold/Oakhurst
 HICAP Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program will be a the center on Wednesday June 12 at 10:30 to present on Medicare Insurance.
Waffle Breakfast & Movies have been canceled for the Summer.  September 27th will be our first fall breakfast & Movie date.  Jam Session is June 18th.   Food is served at 5:30, music plays until 8:00.  FMAAA is offering Salads for the summer.  Be sure to call in your order before noon the day before. Diane's Dicroic will be on Wednesday June 19th.  This is a fun class to attend.   Volunteers are always needed at the center.    If you have an hour  to spare each week, we would like you to consider sharing it with the center. June is the month for  remembering our fathers and all they did for us.

May Activities at the Center


Here are dates to put on your calendar of events happening at the center.
The SHS Chorus will be at the center Friday May 10th.  Be sure and come to hear the lovely and wonderful voices of our young folks, under the direction of Bruce Weinberger.  You will be entertained.
Monday, May 13 is Red Hat Days with tributes to Mother's.
Diane's Dicroic Glass Class will be on Monday May 20th at 9:00 am.  Come and be creative.
Tuesday May 21 is Jam Session.  Dinner at 5:30 with the "Barn Jammers" playing till 8:00 pm
Don't forget the Birthday Bash on Wednesday, May 29 and to complete the month
Waffle Breakfast and movie, "Crossfire Trail" starring Tom Selleck on Friday May 31.  
Remember all the regular Daily activities.
We have a new computer instructor; Erika Barnes. She'll be at the center on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am.  Come in and ask questions.  She's got the answers.
A field representative (Ross Branch) from Congressman McClintock's office will be at the center on Wed. May 22 at 10:00 to noon.  Bring Questions.

Welcome to April.  Spring has finally arrived in the foothills and everything is in bloom.  This Saturday Night April 6th Bingo will offer a delicious ham dinner with potatoes Au gratin,salad and "Thunder Down Under" dessert.  Bingo with Brandy starts at 7:00 pm.  All are welcome to come and have a fun evening, you could go home a winner!!!  Food to go available.
April 16th,  Jam Session with Dennis and Richard in the kitchen.  Dinner starts at 5:30  and the wonderful Barn Jammers will entertain you from 5:30 to 8:00 pm.  A special Dicroic Glass Class will be held on Saturday April 20 at 2:00 pm.  This is for all those working people who can't make it during the week. Birthday Bash Wednesday, April 24, and to finish the month the monthly Waffle Breakfast/Movie is on April 26th starting at 7:00 am.Movie starts at 10:00 am.  Don't forget our Regular Daily Activities Quilting, crafts, exercise, Nickel Bingo and Computer classes. Come on over, Everyone is welcome.

AN UPDATE FOR MARCH
     We need your support this Thursday, March 21.  The Housing & Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee is holding a meeting this Thursday in the Conference Room "A" on the 8th floor of the Fresno County Plaza Building located at 2220 Tulare St.,Fresno. This is for the electrical system grant for the center. We will leave the Sr. Center at 4:45 and car pool, free parking at the Plaza Garage.  
Diane's dicroic jewelry class is scheduled for Monday, March 25th 9:00 am.  Come and be creative.
Easter Egg Hunt and Birthday Bash is Wednesday, March 27th starting at 10:00 am.Come for the hunt stay for dessert.
Monthly Waffle Breakfast and movie.  Chef Connie and her assistance will whip up a delicious breakfast for you to enjoy and be sure to stay for the movie.  This month's feature is ":Life of "Pi".  You won't want to miss
the delightful morning.

March is here.  Spring is in the air, blossoms are budding and the Senior Center is active.  We are ready for your visit.
This Saturday, March 2, Bingo will feature corn beef and cabbage, cooked by Charlie and Pat Vaughn.  Serving starts at 5:00 and Bingo starts at 7:00.  Bring your money and friends, come for an enjoyable evening.
Memorial Services for Jim Long will be held at the center on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 1 to 4 pm.  It's potluck.  Please join Ruth and family on this day.
Red Hatters will meet at the center on March 11, Mardi Gras Masks will be the feature of the program.
March 15th the  Foothill 4-H group is serving a spaghetti dinner as a fund raiser.  Come over and give your support to these kids.
Jam Session, Tuesday March 19th.  Feature cooks that evening are Jake and Mary Grace.  Come and have a delicious hamburger with all the trimmings with a special dessert.  Be sure and stay for the wonderful music by the Barn Jammers
March 27th, will be a very busy morning at the center.  We are celebrating all the March birthdays plus an Easter Egg Hunt.  Anyone who wants to contribute hard boiled eggs for this occasion will be greatly appreciated.  Be sure to sign up for lunch the day before.  What a fun morning.

Here it is February and spring is said to be just around the corner. Lets get a head start at the Senior Center.
Lots of activities scheduled for this month.  Come and be a part of the excitement.  Sat Night Feb 2nd Bingo with a delicious mean of pulled pork, salad and dessert. Red Hatters will hold their monthly meeting on Monday Feb. 11.  On Wednesday Feb. 13, Tracy Fritzler from Fresno County District Attorney's Office will present a program on Senior Scams and  information on  annuity financial fraud  Be sure to call Tuesday to reserve lunch..  The center will be closed on the Monday February 18th. Tuesday The monthly
 JAM Session, is on the 19th, food available starting at 5:30,  with music until 8:00 pm. Monthly Waffle breakfast  on the 22nd and Diane's Dicroic glass class on the 25th.  To round out the month the birthday bash in on the last Wednesday of the month.  See You at the Center.

Just a reminder about this week at the center.    On Friday, January 25, the center will be serving a delicious Waffle breakfast which included eggs,(cooked just the way you like them) bacon and sausage for a small fee.  Then at 10:00 am a delightful movie will be shown.  Come on out and spent the morning at the center.
Birthday bash is Wednesday,January 30, help those who were born in January celebrate.  Don't forget First Saturday in February is Bingo.  This months meal will be Pulled Pork Sandwiches with salad and desert.
Great way to spent an evening.  Just a reminder about the Mar-Val community card.  It pays when you use your card.  If you haven't signed up be sure and let Mar-Val know and that you want the credit to go to the center.  It's just that easy.   See you at the Center

Welcome to the New Year.  Here is an update for the month of January.Jam Session will be here on January 15 for your entertainment. Food will be available starting at 5:30.  The center will be closed on January 21 for Martin L. King Day.  If you are one of those January birthday folks be sure and come to the center on January 23 for your special day.  Monthly Waffle breakfast with movie is the last Friday of the month, January 25.  Come for a delicious breakfast and stay for a delightful movie.  Don't forget about the new Thursday Quilters.  Bring you quilting supplies and join in the fun.  The center is looking for volunteers.  If you have an hour or two please consider sharing it with the seniors at the center.
Please mark your February calender for a guest speaker.  On Wednesday, February 13, Tracy Fritzler from the Fresno County District Attorney's office will be at the center.  She will present information on annuity and financial fraud plus the current scams on Seniors. This would be a great opportunity to ask questions and get updated information on this subject.
