A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

The year end is upon us, and so is the cold weather. Burr! This is a very busy time for all of us here at the Center and at home.  Please take time to come to the Center and visit with friends.
Sat, Dec. 9, Holiday Craft Fair from 9 to 2 pm, at the Sierra High school large gym, with over 50 vendors.  One stop Christmas shopping. 
Sat. Dec. 16, Christmas Dinner served from 5 - 7 pm, for only $12. adults and $6.00 for children.
Turkey, ham and all the trimmings, desserts and drawings. 
Mon. Dec. 18, Breakfast with Santa.  Santa will be here from 8:00 am to 11:00 am before he heads off to the North Pole.  Eggs, bacon and waffles will be available. A great photo opportunity for all.
Tues. Dec. 19, Jam Session, stop in for a bite to eat and stay for an evening of great music, fun with cowboy poet.
Mon. Dec. 25 - and Mon. Jan. 1 the Center will be closed, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Wed. Dec. 27 - Birthday Bash.  Help those who have birthdays in Dec. celebrate with a special dessert.
Remember all the daily activities at the Center.  Mon. Crafts and Delores' Low Impact Exercise Class.  Tues. Nickel Bingo and Quilters, Wed. Crafts and crochet assistance.  Thurs. Beginners quilting.
The Center is always looking for an artist of the month.  If you or someone you know would like to be the Artist of the Month, please call the center at 855-3300.  A great way to display your talent.
The Center is a great place to come and have a cup of coffee or do crafts or just have lunch and visit with friends. Make it a point to be a part of this wonderful Center, its for everyone.

A Cool Fall

Welcome to November.  There is a slight chill in the air, the smell of autumn is upon us.  Don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour this Saturday. The Center is a friendly and very busy place and we would like you to be a part of it. 
Fri. Nov. 10, Bunco at 9:00.  The center will be closed.
Sat. Nov. 11, Veteran's Day Luncheon at 11:00, this is to thank all the Vets for their service. Desserts appreciated.  Community Bingo - meatloaf dinner starting at 5:00 - 6:30, Bingo at 7:00.
Mon. Nov. 13, Red Hatters at Anne Beach, starting at 10:00 - bring breakfast items.
Fri. Nov. 17, Computer Assistance 10 - 11 am
Tues. Nov. 21, Jam Session, Come for supper and stay for some talented musicians. Starting at 5:30  Richard & Juli will be preparing hot dogs, hamburgers, cheese burgers, etc.
Wed. Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Luncheon starting at 11:00 am  Bring side dishes and desserts.
Thurs. Nov. 23 & Fri. Nov. 24 Center Closed, Happy Thanksgiving
Sat. Nov. 25, Soup'N Pie Event.  Starting at 5:00 - be sure and sign up to bring your favorite soup and/or pie. Tree Lighting at the museum around 7:00 pm.
Wed. Nov. 29, Birthday Bash - and at 12:15 the SHS Choir Christmas Songs.  Come to enjoy the voices of the high school choir and to help celebrate all the Nov. birthday's.Bring cookies to share with the choir.
Coming in December - Santa - Breakfast with Santa on Friday Dec. 1 and Monday Dec. 18. 8 -10 am.

AWESOME AUGUST

Here we are into our 8th month of this year.  It's really going fast, with lots of activities at the center.
The center has started collecting toys for the "Santa Baby" Toy Drive.  There is a box in the common room where you can leave you donation.
If you have extra fabric (no polyester) to donate for a Mariposa Fire victim who loves to quilt, it would be greatly appreciated.  Please bring it to the center and Chris Loyd will pass it on to her.
Sat. Aug 5,  Community Bingo. This month Ted Kimbler will be serving Taco dinner, starting at 5-6:30.  Brandy's bunch takes over for a fun evening of Bingo at 7:00. Come on over for an evening of fun.
 Wed. Aug 9, Sheriff Mims will be at the center from 10 to 11 am to discuss the role of Sheriff in the community.  Bring your questions - she'll answer.
Mon. Aug 14, Red Hatters -10 am, A crafting party.  Bring your own t-shirt and we will show you how to make it into a grocery bag.  Snacks are always welcome.
Wed. Aug 16,Summer Theme, Salads & Desserts - bring your favorite dish.
Fri. Aug 18, Computer Assistance from 10 - 11 am. If interested, be sure to sign up at the front desk.
Tues. Aug 22, Jam Session. Let the center fix you dinner, hot dogs, hamburger, cheese burger or a bowl of chili starting at 5:30 then stay to listed to our great musicians and enjoy the humor from the Cowboy Poet.
Wed. Aug 23, Mysti Harrison from Home Instead will be at the center at 10:00, to answer any question you might have.
Sat. Aug 26, International Dinner Buffet.  Enjoy food from all over the world prepared by our local foothill cooks.  Sign up at the Center to prepare a special dish. Buffet is from 5 - 7:00 pm, tickets are $8.00.
Wed. Aug 30, Birthday Bash.  Come on over to the center and celebrate those who had a birthday in Aug  Our very own Pat Gallegos is preparing a special treat, after all its her birthday!!
Need for Volunteers for October's Chili Cook off - if interested contact Chris Loyd at the center.

JUST JOIN US IN JULY

This would be a great month to become involved with the Sierra Oaks Senior And Community Center.  Lots of activities are in store.
Fri. July 14, Bunco starting at 9:00 am.  Lots of laughs and fun.
Sat. July 15, Annual Pie Contest, starting at 1:00 - 3:00.  Be sure to sign up to bake your best pie.  $8.00 charge to sample various pies.
Tues. July 18, The July Jam, starting at 5:30 - order up a hamburger, cheese burger, chili burger hot dog or bowl of chili.  There's always dessert.  Stay for an evening of musical entertainment and Cowboy Poet.  
Wed. July 19 - Informational Presentation of the History of Temperance Flat. Discussion starts at 10:00 am.
Fri. July 21, Computer Assistance Class from 10 - 11 am. Open to the public at no cost.
Sun, July 23, Connie Irwin's 80th Birthday Party starting at 1:00 pm.
Wed. July 26, Birthday Bash. Come to the Center and help all the July birthday's celebrate another good year.
Starting in August, the Lions Club Paper drive will have only 1 pick up, that will be in Auberry.
The Prather stop will be discontinued.  If you would like to drop your papers,magazines, phonebooks, etc. off at the senior center, there will be a spot.
The Center has started to collect toys for the Christmas Toy Drive.  There is a box at the center waiting to be filled with toys for kids.

Hurrah for June

What a busy month at the Center.  Come on over and be a part of the activities.
Our biggest fund raiser for the month is the Yard Sale.  Clean out your garage, closed, basement
etc and bring items to be sold on Sat. June 17.  Space available for $10.00
Fri. June 9, Bunco, 9:00 - 11:00.  What a fun group.
Sat. June 10, Bingo, Coney Island Hot Dogs, starting at 5:00-6:30.  Brandi's Bingo Bunch at 7:00.
Mon.June 12 Red Hatters to the Basilwood Goat Farm.  Meet at the center by 9:15. Lunch at Velascos at 11:30.
Wed. June 14 Dichoic Jewelry making class starts at 9:00.
Sat. June 17, Breakfast starting at 8:00 - 11 and Yard Sale 8-2.  Space available for $10.00.
Tues. June 20 Jam Session. All the fun starts at 5:30 with good eats.
Wed. June 21, K-9 Dogs at the center from 9:30 to 11:00. Come and check out the Dogs!
Wed. June 28 Birthday Bash. Mystic Harrison from Home Instead will be here at 10:00.
Just a reminder of all the weekly events at the center, such as Crafts,Tuesday Nickel Bingo, and Quilting.  Remember to keep up your dues. Only $20 for single & $30 for dual.
Once again the Summer Salads are available along with the regular meals.  Don't forget to
order the day before by 11:30.

MEMORABLE MAY

Welcome to the Month of May at the Sierra Oaks Senior Center. What a beautiful month and a great time to be a part of the Senior Center.
Reserve Friday, May 19 for a morning visit with Assemblyman Jim Patterson.  He will be here between 9 am and 11:15 am.
Sat. May 6,  Dinner & Bingo, Chicken enchiladas will be served starting at 5:00 - 6:30 pm.  Brandy's Bingo starts at 7:00
Mon. May 8, Red Hatters Tea
Fri. May 12, Bunco, starts at 9:00 am.  Come on over for the fun.
Wed. May 10 ,Mystie Harrison, from Home Instead will be here at 10:00 to answer questions on deciding where to live, best places for your later in life situation.
Mon, May 15, starting at 9:00 am Dichroic Glass Class.  Make one of a kind jewelry.
Tues. May 16, Jam Session. Dinner starts at 5:30 - 8:00.  Local musician's and our own Cowboy Poet will be on hand for your entertainment.
Wed. May 17, Duffner Farewell. Join us to say goodbye and thank them for all they have done for our center. Bring finger food.  Cake will be provided.
Fri. May 19, Assemblyman Jim Patterson will be at the center starting at 9:00 am.
Friday May 26, Last Waffle Breakfast till fall.  Breakfast starts at 8:00 until 11:00 am.
Mon. May 29, Center will be closed for Memorial Day weekend.
Wed. May 31, Birthday Bash, Come over and help celebrate all those who had a birthday in May and have a piece of cake.
No computer class this month, Next scheduled one will be on June 23rd.
 Other items of interest:  Lions Club collects newspapers and magazines on the third Sat. of the month.  They also collect old  eyeglasses.
YARD SALE is coming up on Sat. June 17.  Call Anne at 855-5335 to reserve your space.  Cost is $10.00
There will be a Country Breakfast served from 7:00 - 10:00
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.  Be a Sierra Oaks Volunteer.

the Mountain Musicians and Cowboy Poet.
Wed. March 22, Dichroic Glass Class starting at 9:00 am.
Wed. March 29, - Birthday Bash Come celebrate the March birthdays.
Fri. March 31, Breakfast.  This month is biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs

FANTASTIC FEBRUARY

What a great month to be a Volunteer at the Sierra Oaks Community and Senior Center.
This is also National Heart Month, so take good care of your health.
Coming Events for this month are:
SOSCC has received a generous grant from the Foundation for rural Service.  The Center has also received a challenge from Ponderosa Telephone Co. for SOSCC  to raise $1,250 which Ponderosa will match.  The Center is asking for your help through your donations to achieve this fun raising  goal   Any questions please call the Center at 855-3300.

Welcome to a wonderful New Year 2017

Great things are going to happen this year and we want you to be a part of the events that are taking place at the Sierra Oaks Senior and Community Center.
Here are the events for January. 
Sat. Jan 7, Community Bingo.  Lasagna and all the trimmings will be served from 5:00 to 6:30.  Then  Brandy and her crew will take over for a fun night of Bingo. 
Fri. Jan. 13 is Bunco at the center starting at 9:00 am.  If you are interested, call the center.
Mon. Jan.16, Center will be closed.
Tues, Jan 17, Jam Session.  Let someone else cook for a change. Starting at 5:30 let Richard or Dennis make a great hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog or a bowl of chili  with dessert. Stay and enjoy the foothill musicians and Cowboy poet.  What an evening.
Wed. Jan. 18, Dicroic Glass Class starting at 9:00.  Come to the center and be creative and make a one of a kind jewelry.
Fri. Jan 20, Computer Assistance starting at 10:30.  Having problems?  Come on over and get them solved.
Wed. Jan. 25,Birthday Bash day.  Cal Fire and Smoky will be here to present "Wildland Fire and Senior Citizens fire safety".  This will be a good time to ask questions and learn about what to do in case of a wildland fire.
Fri. Jan 25, Waffle Breakfast with NEW hours! Starting at 8:00 to 11:00 you can order eggs any way, bacon and a waffle.
Pick up your SuperBowl  Beerrocks on Sat. Feb. 4 before noon. Order now.  $4.00 each.
Our General Meeting are the First Wednesday of the month and give you an up to date information on our activities plus you are eligible for a drawing.  Artist Sandy Madrid has several of her paintings on display for the month of Jan. at the center. If you have an artistic hanging that you would like to display at the center for a month, please contact the center at 855-3300.
