HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE SENIOR CENTER

December is upon  us and the Center is filled with the Christmas spirit.
Fri.Dec. 5 Breakfast with Santa.  Breakfast starts at 7:00 -10:00 am with eggs cooked to order, bacon and a waffle.  Visit with Santa at this time.  He will also be here at 5:00 pm - 7:00 in front of the center in the park area.
Sat. Dec. 6 is the Monthly Community Bingo.  Terri McMeen is serving meatloaf dinner between 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  Be sure and stay for Bingo with Brandy for a fun night.
Sat. Dec. 13, Annual Christmas Dinner with Kathy Duffner hosting.  Dinner starts at 5:00 - 7:30.  Food is great, company great at only $12.00.  Door prizes, drawings and music by T.C. Tunes.
Tues. Dec. 16.  Jam Session.  Take a break from cooking and let the center make you a delicious hamburger or hot dog with all the trimmings or just have a bowl of chili. Food is served from 5:30 -  7:30. Stay to listen to our talented musicians.  Another fun evening at the center.
Wed. Dec. 17.  Ugly Christmas Sweater party and potluck starting at 10:00 am and sponsored by our local Red Hatters.  The whole community is invited, and prizes will be given.
Wed. Dec. 31, Monthly Birthday Bash.  Come on over and celebrate all the birthdays in Dec.
Don't forget the regular daily activities, crafts, nickel bingo, quilters, computer class and exercise class.
The Center will be closed December 25 and 26.  Have a wonderful holiday with family and friends.

FALL IS IN THE AIR AT THE CENTER

The weather has finally cooled, a bit and we did get rain.  Lets hope for more.  November's Community Calendar is filled with tons of activities, starting this Sat.
Sat. Nov. 8, Bingo. Pork loin dinner with all the trimmings starting at 5:30 and prepared by MaryGrace and Jake Marshall.
Mon. Nov. 10, Community Ugly Sweater Workshop sponsored by the Red Hatters, starting at 10 am.  This is for men,women & children.  Sweaters & shirts available for $3.  along with various trims ranging from a dime to $3.00.  The actual party will be at the Center on Dec. 17th.
Mon. Nov. 11 The Center will be closed to regular activities.  There is a Veteran's Day Lunch to honor our local Veterans, and their spouses or care givers at 11:30 am.  The menu is Beef Stew, rolls, salad & dessert.  Music provided by Mill & Joanie Hunter.  Call the center for reservations.
Tues, Nov. 18 Monthly Jam Session - Come on over for a great meal starting at 5:30 and stay to listen to talented musicians.
Wed. Nov. 19 Diane's Dichroic Class starting at 9:00 am.  Come and be creative.  Make your favorite friend or family member something special for Christmas.  There is a slight charge for kiln usage.
Fri. Nov. 21 Waffle Breakfast - eggs cooked to order with bacon, and coffee. Breakfast from 7 am to 10 am.
Fri. Nov. 21 Christmas at the Museum, hours 2:00 to 6:00 pm
Sat Nov. 22 Super Soup 'N Pie.  Bring your family & friends to enjoy a variety of soups & choice of pie, starting at 5:00 pm.
Sat. Nov. 22 Christmas at the Museum.  The center has donated a decorated Christmas tree to be auctioned off at the Museum with 1/2 of the proceeds going to the Center.  Hours are 10 am to 5 pm all week.
Wed. Nov. 26 Monthly Birthday Bash Come and celebrate all the November birthdays.
Thurs. Nov. 27-28 Center will be closed for Thanksgiving Holiday.
Fri. Nov. 29 Christmas Boutique at the center from 10 am to 5 pm.  Lots of crafters.  Space still available for $10. Lunch will be served from 11 to 4 pm for $5.00, 'Costco Dog', chips & drink.  Santa will be available from 10 am until 5 pm.  Come bring the kids and have your picture taken with Santa
Sat. No. 29. Christmas Boutique at the Museum, last day, hours 10 am to 5 pm.

"SMOKIE" AUGUST AT THE CENTER

This Wed. Aug 6th 10:00 am the U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development or (HUD) will be at the center to receive community input & recommendations for use of Community Development Block Grant.  You are encouraged to attend and make recommendations to the County for future project at the Sierra Oaks Senior Center.
Sat. Aug 9th, Community Bingo, dinner will be served from  5:00 - 6:30 only $7.00
Wed. Aug 13th, "No HOLIDAY" Pot Luck Picnic.  Bring your favorite picnic dish. The center will provide Hot dogs.
Tues. Aug. 19, Jam Session Dinner starts at 5:30 - 6:30.  Bring your favorite instrument and Jam with the rest of the group.
Wed. Aug 20 EOC Transit Mobility Training will be at the center at 10:00 am to hold a class to help you learn how to safely use public transportation such as the Auberry Transit.  
Wed. Aug 27th Monthly Birthday Bash.  Come for lunch and have a piece of cake to celebrate all the August birthday's.
Coming in September.  Your Entry Forms and Fees are due for the Big Fresno Fair by Sat. Sept. 6th.
Lets have a great turn out this year. Bus to the fair is scheduled for Mon. Oct. 6th. Cost is $5.00 in advance Any question Call Anne Beach at 855-5335.
Fairwinds Choirs have been rescheduled for Wed. Sept. 17th.
Flu Clinic is tentatively scheduled for Tues. Sept. 30th.
5th Annual Chili Cook is scheduled for Oct. 18th.

July at the Center

Big Events at the Center for the month of July.

Wed. July 9 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP, will be at the center from 9:30 to noon.  This is a great opportunity to apply for low income home energy assistance.
Sat. July 12 there will be a Pie Contest from 1 to 4 pm.  Sign up to bake you best or just come and purchase a piece of pie and ice cream for $3.00.  Come see who bakes the best pie in the foothills. Delicious!!!
Mon. July 14, Red Hatters Birthday Party @ 10:00 am..
Tues. July 15  Jam Session.  Let Dennis & Richard do the cooking then stay and listen to the musicians of this area entertain you.  What a great evening!
Wed. July 16 General Meeting.  Be sure and come to hear what new things are going on at the center.
Wed. July 23 The Fairwinds Singers will entertain you with their 2014 Stars & Stripes Forever Tour at 10:30 am. Come stay cool, enjoy the music and have an ice cream sundae!!!
Wed. July 30  Birthday Bash.  Come and help celebrate with those who's birthdays are in July with a delicious cake.

June is half Way

Just an update on June events at the Center
June 18 Wed starting at 10:30. Fresno County Housing Assistance or HARP will present a program on low-income homeowners to make accessibility improvements by providing a zero percent interest loan.
June 21, Sat. start your day off with a wonderful breakfast starting at 7:00.  Peddler's Fair will begin at 8:am until 2:00 pm.  Good time to unload some items and make some $$.  Space available for $10. There is still time to sign up for baked good to be sold at the Peddler's Fair.  Come and enjoy the day.

Jam tonight with dinner served at 5:30 - 7:30.  Great time to hear great music presented by our local musicians.
June menu is offering salads along with the regular meals.  If you would like to have a salad for lunch, be sure and call in before 11:45 am, so that your name gets on the list. Wed. salad is Tuna, Thurs, Chef Salad and Fri.. Teriyaki Chicken.  They are good. Regular meals for the rest of the week are, Wed. Chicken Thigh with BBQ, Thurs, Pepper steak with grave and Friday shredded BBQ pork.

Just a reminder that the Pie contest is on July 12.  You have time to sign up to bake your favorite pie.

May Flowers are in bloom

Another month is here.  Be sure and keep your membership up to date.  $20.00  for single and $30.00 for 2 people living in the same household.
Mark your calendar for fun things at the center.
Wed. May 7  - General Meting starting at 10:00 am.  We will be discussing the month's activities.
Sat. May 10 -  90th Birthday celebration for Ethyl & Marian, pot luck starting at noon.
Wed. May 14 - "Spring Sing" with the Sierra High Choir, at 11 am.  Come and hear the beautiful voices of these high school kids.
Tues. May 20 - Jam Session starting at 5:30 with hamburgers/hot dogs and all the trimmings.Tasty dessert and wonderful musicians from the foothill area to entertain you.
Wed. May 28, FMAAA Resource Fair 10 am to noon. Many agencies will be here to answer your questions on nutrition, care giving, animal disaster, health collaborative, telephone assistance and health ins.
Fri. May 30, Waffle Breakfast - start your day off right with a yummy breakfast of eggs cooked to order, bacon and, of course, delicious waffles.
Thank you for a successful Spring Boutique; the Board is already planning for next year.
Many thanks to Teri McMeen and Becky Zagha for a wonderful Volunteer luncheon.  Most enjoyable.
Just a reminder, if you order a meal, please come, if you can't please call and cancel.
TIP E-waste is scheduled for May 17 at CVS parking lot.   Bring all your unused or broken electronics that day.
June is Board Election month.  We will be voting on members at the June 4th General Meeting.  Have a great month.

April at the Senior & Community Center

The Center is a great place to gather with friends for fun and games, so come and be a part of the gathering.
This month at the Center is filled with events starting this Wednesday at the General Meeting.
Sat.   April 12, Spring Boutique starting at 9:00 am, with Costco dogs, chips & soda for only $5.00.
Mon. April 14, is Red  Hats "Project Runway"event, starting at 9:00 am.
Tues. April 15, Jam Session with Charlie Vaugh cooking your favorite burger to order. If you have an                instrument, or know someone who does, come along and join in the jam.
Wed. April 16, Easter Celebration at the Center.  If you can bring pre-wrapped candies for the "eggs",                please bring them to the center by this Friday.
Wed. April 23, Diane's Dicroic Class, starting at 9:30.  Come and be creative.
Fri. April 25, Waffle Breakfast, starting at 7:00 am, Cooks Connie & BJ will serve eggs to order, bacon &       Waffles.
Wed. April 30, Volunteer Luncheon @11:30 am.  This is National Volunteer Week and the Center is taking      this time to recognize people who work so hard & volunteer their time to make the Center possible.  Call      the center to sign up for the luncheon before the 21st. of April .

Easter Baskets are available for purchase at the Center.  Ranging from $5.00 to $20.00, filled with lots of goodies.  They would make a great gift to give to little ones for Easter.

Mary's Place is open Mon, Wed & Fri.  If you have anything to donate or you want to just browse or purchase an item the hours are the same as the center, 8:30 - 12:00.

March came in like a lion!

How did you like the rain?  Here's the schedule of activities for the center.  Hope you can make it.
March 5,  Wed. General Meeting, 10:00 am. Get informed about activities of the center.
March 10, Mon. Red Hat's St. Patty's Party, 10:00.  Be sure and wear something green.
March 15, Sat. First Mountain Art Show.  From 2-5 pm.  50/50
           Come and support our local artists and enjoy the some delicious appetizers.
March 18, Tues. Monthly Jam Session with dinner starting at 5:30 
          This months cooks are Richard & Dennis.
March 26, Wed. Come for the Birthday Bash.  Help celebrate all those March birthday's   
March 28,  Fri.  Waffle Breakfast/Movie.  Breakfast starts at 7:00 am with the movie at 10:00.   This month's  movie is The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp.    
Remember the usual activities such as crafts, exercise,nickel bingo, beginning quilters, card games and crochet.

This is Chocolate Month.

Something new has been added to the Senior Center, "Games and Such" is scheduled on Monday's. starting at 9:30 am.  What games do you like to play or know how to play or want to learn to play.   Come and try it out.
Thanks to everyone who ordered Beer Rocks and enjoyed them during the Super Bowl Football Game.

A NEW YEAR

Welcome to 2014.  The Senior/Community Center is getting ready for a successful month and we want you to be a part of it.  This month's Bingo is Sat. Jan. 11th with Lasagna dinner starting at 5:00 pm.
 Red Hatters meet on the 13th. 
Diane's Dicroic Jewelry Class is on the 15th at 9:30.
The center will be closed for ML King on the 20th
Jam Session on the 21.
Birthday bash on the 29th.
Finishing off the month is the Waffle Breakfast and Movie on the 31st.
Beer Rocks for sale for just $3.00, a Super Bowl special.
